4SS. Philo et Agathopodes M. M. (25. Ap.) Der heil. Philo war Diakon zu Tarsus im 2. Jahrh. Der hl. Ignatius gedenkt seiner im Briefe an die Philadelphier (Cap. 11), indem er sagt, Philo sei aus Cilicien, Agathopodes Diacon zu Antiochia, mit dem Beinamen Rheus (vgl. Ign. ad Smyrno.) aber aus Syrien gewesen. Sie haben nach der Vermuthung des Baronius den hl. Martyrer Ignatius nach Rom begleitet und seine hl. Reliquien nach Antiochia zurückgebracht. Sicher aber ist, daß der heil. Ignatius beide hoch schätzte, und daß sie um Jesu willen mancherlei Unbilden zu ertragen hatten, die sie nicht achteten, weil sie bereits sogar das Leben dem Herrn geopfert hatten. Auch die Gläubigen erwiesen ihnen um ihres treuen Dienstes willen alle Liebe, und nahmen sie überall als Diener Christi auf. Der heil. Philo scheint immer, der hl. Agathopedes nur zeitweilig in der Begleitung des hl. Ignatius gewesen zu sein. (III. 359.)
