1S. Amor (Amator), Abb. (17. Aug.) Lat. = die Liebe, der Liebling. – Der hl. Amor (oder, wie er auch heißt, Amator) stammte nach Einigen aus Schottland, nach Andern aus Aquitanien im südlichen Frankreich, und hatte den hl. Pirmin zum Lehrer, der ihn allem Anscheine nach in die klösterliche Abgeschiedenheit geführt. Als der hl. Pirmin in der Gegend des Odenwaldes die Lehre Jesu verkündigte, begab sich der hl. Amor in Gesellschaft einiger andern Mönche zu ihm und bot ihm seine Dienste an. Er leuchtete wie ein wohlthätiges Gestirn in jenen Gegenden und strebte in Gemeinschaft mit dem hl. Bischof Burchard von Wirzburg das Reich Gottes durch die Bekehrung der Odenwäldler zu erweitern. Der hl. Amor stiftete das von ihm benannte berühmte Benedictinerkloster zu Amorbach, dessen erstere Aebte durch ihre Tugenden auf dem bischöflichen Stuhl von Verden geglänzt haben. Er starb im J. 767 oder 777 und ward von jeher in seinem Kloster am 17. August öffentlich verehrt.
