S. Anacletus, Papa, M. (13. Juli). Griech. Ἀνάϰλητος = der Zurückberufene, wieder zum Dienste Aufgeforderte. – Der hl. Papst Anaklet, ein geborner Athenienser, war der Nachfolger des hl. Clemens, und regierte die Kirche nach Einigen 9 Jahre und drei Monate, nach Andern 12 Jahre. Er sah mit tiefstem Schmerze die Verheerungen, welche die trajanische Verfolgung im J. 107 in der Heerde Jesu anrichtete. Damit sich keine ungeprüften und unrechtmäßigen Bischöfe in der Kirche einschleichen könnten, verordnete er, daß jeder Bischof von nicht weniger als drei andern Bischöfen, die Priester aber von ihrem eigenen Bischofe öffentlich geweiht werden, und daß alle Gläubigen nach der Communion des Priesters das hl. Abendmahl empfangen sollten. Alte Martyrerverzeichnisse legen ihm den Titel »Blutzeuge« bei, und auch im Mart. Rom., so wie im röm. Brevier, wo er überall am 13. Juli vorkommt, wird er als Martyrer bezeichnet.
