1S. Manuel, Ep. M. (22. al. 20. Jan.) Von diesem hl. Manuel ist im Vorübergehen in unserm Werke gehandelt worden. (S. II. 383 S. Georgius2.) Er war Erzbischof von Hadrianopel, weßhalb er auch der »sehr heilige Metropolit« genannt wird. Die neuern Boll. bestätigen die durch ihn und seine Genossen (S. S. Georgius2) bewirkten zahlreichen Bekehrungen. In der darüber vom Bulgarenkönig Crumnus erregten Verfolgung wurden sie eingekerkert, von seinem Nachfolger aber hingerichtet. Nach Migne war sein Tod sehr grausam, indem man ihm zuerst beide Hände abhackte, dann aber den Leib in zwei Theile spaltete und den wilden Thieren vorwarf. Die Boll. glauben lieber, er sei enthauptet worden, und zwar ungefähr um das J. 818, während die neuern Boll. 820 angeben. Die von ihm vorhandenen Abbildungen stellen (nach Migne) seinen Martyrtod dar. (IV. 441 u. 442).
