Philo, S. (3)

3S. Philo (24. Jan.). Bischof von Calpe, wahrscheinlich die bithynischen Hafenstadt Kalpeia, wenn es nicht vielleicht die Stadt Karpasia auf Cypern sein soll. Er wird in den Menäen am heutigen Tage erwähnt mit den hhl. Martyrern Hermogenes14 und Menas10, mit dem Priester Philippicus und dem Martyrer Barsimas. (S. d. d.) Der hl. Athanasius schreibt in der Vertheidigung seiner Flucht und in einem Brief an die Einsiedler, daß ein Bischof und Bekenner Philo von Georg dem Cappodocier in die Verbannung geschickt wurde und sich nach Babylon zurück zog. Wenn dieser gemeint ist, was nicht sehr wahrscheinlich zu sein scheint, da sein Sitz in Aegypten gelegen war, so mag er i. J. 341 gestorben sein. (II. 593.)
