Urbicius, S. (1)

1S. Urbicius (Urbanus), (20. März), ein Bischof zu Metz, der 15. in der Reihenfolge, und Nachfolger des Explecius. Er wird in einem alten Metz'schen Martyrologium der erste Bischof von Mainz (die Kataloge dieser Kirche kennen ihn nicht) und Bekenner des Glaubens genannt, und starb, nachdem er durch 29 Jahre als sorgsamer Hirte seine Heerde geleitet hatte, um das J. 420. Erstlich wurde er in der Kirche des hl. Maximinus begraben; von dort aber in eine zu seiner Ehre gebaute Kirche vor dem deutschen Thore gebracht. Im J. 1552 wurden die Reliquien in die Kirche des heil. Eucharius übertragen, im J. 1792 aber von den Revolutionshelden verbrannt und die Asche in den Wind zerstreut. Ferrarius nennt ihn irrthüm Uch Bischof von Mainz. (III. 86.)
