S. Barsimæus, (30. Jan.), ein Bischof von Edessa in Mesopotamien, der viele Heiden zum Christenthum bekehrte, aber eben seines Eifers wegen, im Beginn des zweiten Jahrhunderts unter Traian (98–117) zu todt gegeißelt wurde. Sein Name steht am angegebenen Tage auch im Mart. Rom.
