Bertharius, S. (1)

1S. Bertharius (Betharius, Boharius, Beharius), (2. Aug.) – frz. Bethaire oder Boaire – stammte aus der Stadt Rom von vornehmen Eltern und kam nach Chartres, wo er vom Bischof Papulus erzogen und frühzeitig in den Klerus aufgenommen wurde. Clothar II. erwählte ihn zu seinem Erzkaplan und erhob ihn in der Folge auf den bischöflichen Stuhl von Chartres, gerade zu einer Zeit, welche wegen der Kriege zwischen Clothar und Theodorich (Thierri) für Frankreich eine sehr traurige gewesen. Er war einer der größten Bischöfe seiner Zeit und bot Alles auf, die Noth zu mildern, welche der Krieg in seiner Diöcese zur Folge gehabt hatte. Er starb um das Jahr 623.
