3S. Jacobus, Erem. (28. al. 29. Jan.). Dieser hl. Jakob wohnte 15 Jahre lang in einer Höhle am Berge Karmel; darauf schickte ihm der Feind seiner Seele eine schlechte Weibsperson, um ihn zur Sünde zu verleiten. Stark durch die göttliche Gnade, blieb er aber Sieger und bekehrte die Tiefgesunkene zum christlichen Glauben. Er bezog dann eine andere Höhle und wohnte dort 30 Jahre lang. Er floh alle Ehre, bekehrte viele Samariter, nahm keine Geschenke an und machte viele Kranke gesund. Zuletzt verlockte ihn der Teufel doch noch zu schweren Sünden, worüber er fast in Verzweiflung gerieth, und die er in einem Grabe noch 10 Jahre lang schmerzlich beweinte. Er starb im 6. Jahrhundert. Am 28. Jan. gedenkt seiner auch das Mart. Rom. (II. 868.)
