39V. Josephus Fernandez, (24. Juli), ein Missionär in Tonkin und Dominicaner, wurde nach Migne (II. 1496) im J. 1774 in Spanien geboren. Im J. 1805 ging er auf die Mission nach Tonkin und wirkte dort sehr viel für die Ehre Gottes, bis die Verfolgung ihn zwang, mit dem eingebornen Priester Peter Tuan sich zu flüchten. Sie verbargen sich bei einem Heiden, der sie aber bald verrieth. Am 18. Juni 1838 wurden sie ins Gefängniß geworfen, wo sie viel zu leiden hatten. Endlich wurde unser ehrw. Josephus Fernandez am 24. Juli 1838 enthauptet. (Mg.)
