Josephus Guys (52)

52Josephus Guys, (30. Jan.), ein Oratorianer-Missionär, wurde im J. 1611 geboren in la Ciotat, einer kleinen Stadt im südlichen Frankreich. Er empfahl sich durch seine Tugenden und guten Werke, insbesondere aber durch die Missionen, welche er in der Diöcese Arles hielt. Seine gehaltenen Reden bewirkten Bekehrungen in großer Zahl, und die verhärtetsten Sünder konnten der Eindringlichkeit seiner Ermahnungen nicht widerstehen. Er starb im Geruche der Heiligkeit am 30. Jän. 1694,82 Jahre alt. Er schrieb ein Werk: »Beschreibung der Arena oder des Amphitheaters zu Arles«, welches man für das Beste hält, was über dieses denkwürdige römische Gebäude verfaßt worden.
