4SS. Antiochus et Cyriacus, MM. (15. Juli). Der hl. Antiochus war ein Arzt, aus Sebaste in Armenien (nach Andern in Kappadozien) gebürtig, und nach den griechischen Menäen der Bruder des hl. Martyrers Plato. Letzterem stimmen die Bollandisten nicht bei, indem sie darauf hinweisen, daß der hl. Martyrer Plato aus Ancyra gebürtig gewesen, während unser Heiliger zu Sebaste das Licht der Welt erblickt habe. Nachdem der hl. Antiochus im ganzen Lande umhergezogen war und die Kranken geheilt hatte, wurde er vom Präfecten Adrian ergriffen und auf sein standhaftes Bekenntniß in einen mit Oel gefüllten und sieben Tage lang geheizten Kessel geworfen, aus welchem er jedoch unversehrt hervorging. Darauf wurde er den wilden Thieren vorgeworfen, und da soll ein Panther zu sprechen angefangen und den grausamen Tyrannen wegen seiner Ungerechtigkeit scharf getadelt haben (una panthera reprehendit Præfectum humana voce). Als endlich auf das Gebet des Heiligen alle Götzenbilder in der Stadt zusammenstürzten und im Winde verwehten, wurde Antiochus zum Tode mit dem Schwerte verurtheilt. Bei der Hinrichtung floß Milch statt Blut aus dem Körper, und dieses Wunder machte auf den Scharfrichter Cyriacus solchen Eindruck, daß er aufder Stelle sich zum Christenthum bekehrte, worauf er gleichfalls enthauptet wurde und so die Martyrerkrone erhielt.
