Maw, S.

S. Maw (Mauditus), (17. Mai), Einsiedler in Cornwall, welcher in der Absicht, sich Gott allein zu weihen, aus Irland dahin gekommen war. Er wohnte unweit der Seeküste in der Umgegend von Falmouth, wo eine Kirche und der Ort seinen Namen St. Mawes (S. Mauditi castrum) erhielt. Andere nennen ihn Bischof. Auf Bildnissen findet man ihn mit dem Unterrichte der Kinder beschäftiget dargestellt. (Aus Butler, engl. Ausg. V. 248. In der deutschen Ausgabe ist dieser Heilige übergangen).
