55Simon Maccabaeus, zweiter Sohn des Matathias, ein weiser Rathgeber und Feldherr, wurde nach seinem Bruder Jonathan Hoherpriester und Fürst, als welcher er acht Jahre lang regierte, dann aber auf Anstiften des syrischen Königs Sidetes durch Meuchelmord fiel.
