Eadburga, S. (1)

1S. Eadburga (Edburga), Virgo. (15. Juni). Die hl. Jungfrau Eadburga war eine Tochter des Königs Eduard I. von England und dessen Gemahlin Elfgiva (Edgiva). Schon in früher Jugend gab sie Zeichen ihres Berufes, indem sie statt der vorgelegten Schmucksachen nach Kelch und Evangelienbuch griff. Sie nahm den Schleier in dem Kloster Nonnenmünster bei Winchester und zeichnete sich durch Liebe und Demuth besonders aus. Ihr Tod fällt in die Hälfte des 10. Jahrhunderts. (960 oder 980.) Nach Lechner wird ihr Fest am 27. Dec. gefeiert, während Andere sie am 13. Dec. haben. Diese und die folgenden hhl. Eadburga (Eadburgis) werden übrigens häufig miteinander verwechselt und kommen auch unter anderen Namen vor, z. B. Idaberga, Idberga etc., welche man an dem betreffenden Orte nachsehen wolle. (Jun.
