18Eulogius de Alexandria, ein Einsiedler, verließ nach glücklich vollendeten Studien die Welt, nachdem er sein Vermögen unter die Armen vertheilt hatte. Da er auf einem öffentlichen Platze einen Krüppel fand, der weder Hände noch Füße hatte, beschloß er, sich des Armen anzunehmen. Nachdem Eulogius für ihn 15 Jahre lang mit einer Liebe gesorgt hatte, als wenn er sein Vater gewesen wäre, kam der Geist der Undankbarkeit über den Armen, welcher seinem Wohlthäter die gröbsten Beleidigungen zufügte. Eulogius ertrug Alles mit christlicher Geduld; endlich aber brachte er den Armen zu dem großen hl. Einsiedler Antonius, der ihm wegen seiner Undankbarkeit Vorwürfe machte, in Folge deren er sich bekehrte. Eulogius starb um die Mitte des 4. Jahrhunderts und drei Tage nach ihm auch der arme Krüppel.
